Just in case you wanted to call that aunt in Germany

“Iowa based AllFreeCalls is letting people make phone calls to many foreign countries for free. Or rather, for the cost of a call to Iowa. You call the AllFreeCalls phone number, which is 712-858-8094, and at the prompt dial 011, the country code you are calling and the number you wish to call. The call is made at no charge to the user. A list of supported countries and prefixes is here, and the company says they are adding ten more countries in the coming weeks.

Here’s my understanding of how this works: the founder created his own telephone company in Iowa. Iowa is apparently the only state taking advantage of an FCC kickback scheme that gives telco’s a portion of the fees generated from every inbound call to an Iowa number. So when you call the AllFreeCalls phone number, a portion of any long distance fees you are paying go to the company. The kickback is apparently authorized via the Universal Service Fund. These kickbacks are enough on average to more than cover the international outbound calling fees.”

Bart Patched

Had 4 or 5 people ask me how I was feeling today.

At first, I was scratching my head, wondering how they even knew I was sick. (”Wha… Did they put a picture of me outside the nurse’s station? ‘AVOID THIS MAN!’”)

Then I realized that I was watching blog stats…. In real life.

Here’s to you, my faithful viewers. All… um… well, both of you. Ok, now it’s just you. Wow. This is kinda awkward. Wait, where are you going?

Anyways. I’m all better. I think. You be the judge.

Technology+Digg=Crazy Delicious

That’s the number of PAGES OF results for news stories with the word iPhone in them during the last 7 days from Digg.com.

Let’s see…. First there was hype, then sketchups, then the announcement, the disbelief, then awe, then retorts, then comparisons, then defenses, then conversation and more conversation…. But then, after the tech. community slowed down a little, I think the common consensus is that Apple is going to take over the world.

Maybe Google will take over the world first. It’ll look cooler if Apple does, but at least with Google, I’ll be able to find my shoes.

Hey, don’t laugh. Google’s in talks to partner with CBS now. They already bought out YouTube and every other hot tech startup. Ever. Yes, they bought that one too.

Monsters are still monsters if they’re organized.

I love technology. It’s true. Laugh now. Let’s see you people laugh when I’m the only one who can disable the impending future robot overlords. Owned by Google. On their iPhones. Noob.
