And… Back Again…
Well, as much as I dread saying this, welcome back… Welcome back to Part Deux of the all-important 2006-2007 school year. I see about 20 plebes who have joined us, and I extend a welcome to you as well.
Kids who come second semester have a higher chance of dropping out, studies show. Why? Well, the theory is that when you come to college in a freshmen group at the beginning of a semester, you get better orientation, more preferential treatment, and better course scheduling. I think that’s only part of the story.
I think it’s because they don’t fit in as naturally. Nobody likes to stand out. You have the whole pecked hen thing where the new person stands out. Now, in some cases they stand out in a good way and attract a lot of attention, but rarely. Takes more guts to be a second-semester student here. Maybe the fact that there is 20+ of them will make it easier. They could form their whole little sub-clique.
Today was evidence of the flurry, nay, the frenzy that can envelope this place. I’m not a man who enjoys chaos, and when a day goes down like today, it makes me feel critical of myself in not being able to keep everything running at once. Perhaps I take work too seriously, I’m not sure. Perhaps we just need to replace CAMS already.
